Join Poppy Balser in a workshop “Learn to Capture a Scene Quickly and Efficiently en Plein Air".”
Painting outside can test the skill and patience of any artist. The outside world surrounds us with subject matter to paint and it is often hard to choose what to include on our paper and what to leave out. Changing light and weather only adds to the challenges we face. Learning to concentrate on one subject or a simplified version of a scene can help cut out the clutter, both in our intentions and on our paper.
Let Poppy help you meet those challenges with your paintbrush in hand. Here is what you will be able to practice during the workshop
making several thumbnails to focus on your subject
remembering to plan for reserving your white areas when you are drawing
using a value sketch to identify the major shapes in your scene
using your value sketch as a reference when you paint the scene in colour
mixing effective darks by controlling the amount of the water in the brush
colour mixing with a limited palette to make convincing greens
